Rules of Triple Draw Poker
It might take a bit of adjustment to get used to playing lowball if you are used to playing a standard “high” poker variation. In 2-7 Triple Draw, your objective is to make the “lowest” possible hand. To know how to play this game, we’ve broken it down into a few components:
The Blinds
2-7 Triple Draw is played the same as Limit Hold ’em with a small and big blind. The big blind is twice the normal size of the small blind. For example, the small blinds can be $1, while the big blind can be $2. The player that is sitting left from the dealer posts the small blind while the person sitting to the left posts the big blind.
The Deal
Each player will be dealt five cards face down in 2-7 Triple Draw. The deal starts with the player on the left of the dealer and continues clockwise until each player has five cards. Once each player has five cards, the first betting round starts.
The Betting
Play rotates clockwise, beginning with the player to the left of the big blind. Each player can call the blind, raise or fold their hand. If a raise is made, the remaining players need to match that raise to keep their hand live. If at least two players are remaining after the first betting round, the first draw takes place.
The Draws
After the first betting round, any players still left may discard and replace any or all of the cards to try and make a stronger hand with play beginning from player to the left of the dealer. Two more draws and two more betting rounds (that’s the Triple Draw) follow and assuming that two or more players remain. Once the final round of the betting is completed, the lowest hand wins the pot.
The Showdown
Once all three draws are complete, and the betting is closed, players reveal their hands and the lowest possible hand wins the pot. Hands are ranked according to the highest card down to the lowest card deciding the winner. The best possible 2-7 Lowball hand is 7-5-4-3-2. The pot split if two players have the same hand.
