Handicapping The 2020 NFC East Betting Odds
The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles have controlled the NFC East title race the past four years. Since the 2016 season, each team has won the division title twice. The Eagles topped the Cowboys last year in Week 16 to take top honors with a record of 9-7. Now, let’s start to talk about handicapping the 2020 NFC East betting odds.
Turning to this year’s NFC East futures odds at MyBookie, Dallas gets the early nod as a -110 favorite. Philadelphia should stay right in the mix as a +140 second-favorite. The New York Giants (+800) and the Washington Redskins (+1200) are much farther down the list.

I would have to agree that this going to be another two-team race to the title. The Giants and Redskins won a combined seven games in 2019. Both teams should be more competitive this time around. Yet, this is still a rebuilding year for each ball club.
The Cowboys failed to meet expectations one too many times with last year’s fade to 8-8. This cost Jason Garrett his job as head coach. Team owner Jerry Jones brought in former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy as his answer for turning things around. Dak Prescott will once again lead the offense at quarterback. Ezekiel Elliott will handle the ground game as one of the premier running backs in the NFL.
Dallas added former Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with its first pick of the draft. He will complement Amari Cooper in the passing game. The team went on to use four of its next five draft picks on the defensive side of the ball.
On paper, the Cowboys should be favored to win the NFC East based on talent alone. However, they still enough holes here and there to sap some value from their -110 odds. McCarthy needs to get this team to play to expectations in his first season at the helm. If that happens, Dallas could be in line for much bigger things this season than just winning a division title.
The main thing Philadelphia has going for it in this year’s division race is the ability to play beyond expectations. Its 2017 run to a Super Bowl title was with backup quarterback Nick Foles leading the way. Following a slow start in 2018, the Eagles won six of their last seven games. They went 9-7 to earn a wild card in the playoffs.
Last season, they had to win the final four games of the year to win the division with the same 9-7 record. Doug Pederson has exceeded everyone’s expectations as head coach. His biggest claim to fame is his team’s ‘never say die’ attitude.
This big question mark every season for Philly is quarterback Carson Wentz’s ability to stay healthy for the entire 16 game season. He has enough talent surrounding him on offense to compete for MVP honors if everything goes his way. I happen to think this could finally be his year.
