Known as the NFC East because of each team’s losing record, someone still has to win the division. The best of the worst is the Philadelphia Eagles at 3-4-1. They currently have -300 odds to repeat as division champs. The other three teams have produced a combined six wins. The mid-season lean goes towards Philly.
NFC North
The 6-2 Green Bay Packers are heavy -750 favorites to win the North. It would be hard to bet against them with the Chicago Bears at 5-4 and the Minnesota Vikings going 3-5 in the first half. The Packers still have to face the Bears twice. They also lost their first matchup against Minnesota. None the less, this is Green Bay’s division title to lose, which I doubt it will.
NFC South
At 6-2, the New Orleans Saints have already swept the 6-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a pair of wins. The Saints’ odds to win the South are -275 as compared to Tampa Bay as a +190 second-favorite. Atlanta and Carolina are heavy longshots. Last Sunday’s win in Tampa Bay was a huge boost that gives New Orleans a clear edge in this race.
NFC West
The Seattle Seahawks lead the West at 6-2 through eight games. Both the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams are one game back at 5-3. Seattle has already lost to Arizona and it faces the Rams in Week 10. While the Seahawks are -240 favorites, this could be a wait-and-see situation. There is still handicapping NFL mid-season division future value in Los Angeles (+400) and Arizona (+500) at the midway point.
AFC East
The 3-5 New England Patriots’ 11-year rein as division champs appears to be coming to an end. The 7-2 Buffalo Bills are heavy -650 favorites to win the East. Yet, the 5-3 Miami Dolphins would be the top value pick at +425. Buffalo already beat the Dolphins once but there are plenty of games left to play in this division race.
AFC North
It is hard to overlook the Pittsburgh Steelers’ perfect 8-0 run through the first half. This includes a recent win over the rival 6-2 Baltimore Ravens. The odds heavily favor the Steelers at -425. There is still some steep risk in that bet with Baltimore sitting at +275 odds. The Cleveland Browns (5-3) at -3300 could even make things interesting. I’m waiting on this bet.
AFC South
This Sunday’s Week 10 game between the 5-3 Indianapolis Colts and the 6-2 Tennessee Titans could shake things up. Tennessee is a -225 favorite to win the South with the Colts second at +160. Houston and Jacksonville are out of the handicapping NFL mid-season division futures picture. The Titans have not been consistent enough to warrant that high of a betting risk. This is another wait-and-see situation.

The 8-1 Kansas City Chiefs are cruising to another West title. As -2500 favorites, this race could come ‘off the board’ with one or two more wins.
