Epic Games Teams Up With Crypto Gaming Platform
The gaming software development industry is becoming more and more complex each year. Advancements in technology along with strategic partnerships are the driving force behind this innovative approach to the marketplace. Certain existing partnerships may need to give way for new ones to accomplish these ever-changing business goals.
Which Crypto Gaming Platform Does Epic Gaming Team Up With?
Last week on Yahoo Finance in a reprint from a post by Brady Dale on CoinDesk, Epic Games was in the news. The creator of “Fortnite” has chosen a gaming platform built on crypto to enhance game development.
The Abyss is the crypto gaming platform as a direct competitor of Steam. The new partnership gives game developers using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine better business terms if they deploy their titles on The Abyss. This crypto was originally funded by an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2018. It has been rewarding gaming developers for purchases on its platform.
To put this into better perspective, head of games licensing for Epic Games released the following statement:
“We’re delighted that The Abyss has chosen to provide additional resources to Unreal Engine developers and publishers on its platform. Unreal Engine 4 scales to hundreds of millions of players. And access to premier support and connections with the global community can be critical to success of large-scale games with live operations.”
The exact details of this partnership were not released. Both parties cited non-disclosure issues as the reason. When pressed for more information, The Abyss founder Konstantin Boyko-Romanovsky told CoinDesk that conditions between Epic Games and developers would be:
“Better than the standard ones and will not be confined to the premium support.”
It was added that developers using Unreal will not have to sign a separate agreement with Epic Games. He stated that “all transactions are done through The Abyss.”
Epic has gained a reputation for advantageous licensing terms for its Unreal Engine. Developers make a quarterly payment of five percent on returns over $3000. This is part of the company’s end-user agreement. There is also an opportunity to negotiate an upfront payment depending on individual developer preferences.
The Unreal Empire game development platform was first launched in 1998. Citing Wikipedia as a source, it was used in the development of :
- Mass Effect
- Batman
- Medal of Honor
As three of the biggest game titles to its credit. This new partnership with The Abyss gives developers access to the Unreal Developers Network. The Abyss will also aid in the overall marketing process.
In 2018 The Abyss Token Initial Coin Offering Launches For 15 Million
The ICO in 2018 raised a total of $15 million. The Abyss token holders were given a vote in reference to the funds a development team could receive. The ability to allocate more funds as the project progressed through the development phase was part of the voting process.
Following the ICO, The Abyss was officially launched in March of this year. As a point of comparison, there are currently six live games on The Abyss. The total on Steam as one of the biggest competitors is 30,000.
The Abyss founder added, “We’re delighted to welcome new Unreal Engine benefits to our platform.”
