What Are The Best Bets For Betting On The Battle For NFL Rookie Of The Year?
Using the updated odds posted at BetOnline, the race for NFL Rookie of the Year is taking shape. As expected, the top of the list is heavily weighted with quarterbacks. However, this season a wide receiver and running back are looking to crash the party.
Top 5 NFL Rookie of the Year Candidates by Current Odds
- Justin Herbert -110
- Joe Burrow +200
- Justin Jefferson +1000
- Tua Tagovailoa +1200
- Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Hebert was the first round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers. He was brought in to replace veteran quarterback Philip Rivers. Through five starts, he has completed 67.4 percent of his 184 passing attempts for 1,542 yards. He has also tossed 12 touchdowns against three interceptions.
The primary value in his odds is tied to his starting role in the lineup. Herbert has been handed the keys to the Chargers’ offense. He will have the opportunity to win or lose this award on his own merits over the next 10 weeks of games.
As last season’s Heisman Trophy winner on a national championship team, Burrow was the early favorite.
He was handed Cincinnati’s starting role as quarterback ahead of week 1. Through his first seven NFL starts, he ranks third in the league in total passing yards (2,023). The 66.6 completion percentage is solid. The nine touchdown throws with five interceptions is expected.
Much like Herbert, this is Burrow’s award to win or lose. The Bengals have been competitive so far to add some more value to his plus-money odds.
Moving away from the quarterback position, Jefferson has made an immediate impact as a wide receiver. He was the first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, which runs a pass-happy offense. Targeted 36 times, he has 28 receptions for 537 receiving yards. This is the 10th-highest total in the NFL. Three of those receptions went for scores.

There is some value in his +1000 odds.
But the two players ahead of him on SportsBetting.ag’s list are going to be hard to pass. Minnesota’s disappointing 1-5 start will not help his cause.
The Miami Dolphins decided to insert Tagovailoa into the starting role as quarterback ahead of schedule. The fact that he will be playing every Sunday adds tremendous value to his +1200 odds. However, he will have to take some serious attention away from Herbert and Burrow with his play on the field.
Edwards-Helaire has the benefit of running the ball for the defending Super Bowl Champions. In his first seven starts for the 6-1 Kanas City Chiefs, he has rushed for 551 yards on 115 carries. That places him second in the league in total rushing yards gained.
Given all the talent on this offense, he could get lost in the shuffle. Adding veteran back Le’Veon Bell as a backup drains some value in the rookie’s odds.
