Objective
7-card stud poker is a casino type of game with the primary objective of winning the best hand. In 7-card stud, each player is dealt with seven cards, and the game aims to form the best five-card combination with the seven cards while betting against the other hands in play. The player that has the best combination wins the pot. However, the 7-card stud comes in two variants – Seven-card Stud High-Low Split.
High/Low Split
This is another variation of the game where there can be two winners. The player who has the best low hand wins half of the pot while the player with the best high hand wins the remaining half. In most games, winning the low hand requires the player to have an 8-low or better. In 7-card stud poker, it’s possible to win both the high and the low hand Winning both hands is called “scooping the pot.”

- At this point, all raises and bets will be the same amount.
- If any player continues, he must decide his first three cards.
- At this point, a player has three choices – fold the hand, call the opening bet, or raise the bet.
- If a player decides to stay, another card will be dealt face-up, and the player with the highest card starts the betting round at the same limit.
- If more players are remaining in the game, another card will be dealt face-up with all bets and raises increased.
- The final and last card is dealt face-down in the final round of betting.
- After bets have been are placed, all players in the game open their cards. The main aim is to use the four face-up cards and three Hole cards to make the best five-card combination that is possible. This stage is called “the showdown.” The player who has the best five-card hand will win the pot.
